A fresh spin on the Classics
Imagine +Create+ Inspire!
Mission & Vision

Mission: Creating multi- generational contemporary and classical theater with socially relevant themes.

A Muse of Fire has a dual focus:
                                  1)  Education:
-to  provide professional training in world theater
-to develop a broader knowledge base for teen and adult performers

                                  2)  Performance:
-to integrate multi-generations in collaborative, diverse
and imaginative performances for the community at large

  • In addition to traditional work, the company will incorporate original and blended plays in readings, workshops, and productions.
  • Company members will develop a solid foundation in world classics while working together in a specific and stylized technique.
  • The company is looking to collaborate with Ojai residents, businesses and community groups in creative endeavors.
  • Aspects of visual and fine arts, music, and dance will be incorporated in the productions to uphold the artistic vision.

artistic director Susan Kelejian started acting professionally after running away to France at age 17 and landing a job in a Commedia Del Arte company. She has returned to Ojai after being away for a few years in Los Angeles where she was the founder and Artistic Director of Equine Dell Arte, the only professional theater company in the world to consistently perform Shakespeare on horseback. Susan first came to Ojai in the 1990’s with the Ojai Shakespeare Festival as Prospera in The Tempest. She subsequently took the helm of the OSF internship program and has been involved with several educational outreach theater companies throughout Southern CA. Her education is from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Goddard College, and USC.

Coming out of the Thomas Fire in January 2018, a restructuring took place for many people in the Ojai Valley and surrounding areas. I was doing some soul searching into what I wanted to do next in my life, my "third act", so-to- speak. After co- facilitating an experiential therapy and mandala workshop with River Sauvageau to help Ojai residents with trauma post-fire, I realized how much I missed ensemble building, group work, and teaching.
I have been fortunate to work with many wonderful people on and off-stage the first 6 months of 2018 and some of them are now founding members of this company. My social work background strives to fulfill areas in community that might not be met- and I see a large area where we can join older professionals to mentor teens and learn from each other.

So.... here we go: launching
A Muse of Fire, the  "new" classical theater company of Ojai!
